What is "Health Management?"

Health Management programs provide individuals with opportunities, information and support 24-hours a day to improve their health, better manage chronic conditions, and make informed health care decisions and appropriate use of medical care.

The health management process works to identify those people most at risk for developing serious, high-cost illness. Then they are given the education and behavior change support they need to adopt healthier lifestyle practices.

The result is improved health outcomes and decreased dependence on costly medical treatment. This approach shifts the traditional paradigm from managing care to improving health, lowering claims utilization by reducing the need and the demand for health care.

How is Health Management different from traditional wellness programs?

Unlike traditional wellness programs, Spectrum's health management programs actively manage the health of your entire population. Through proven approaches of maximizing participation and getting informed consent from participants, we work with your people one-by-one to change the risk profile of your organization.

What kind of participation rates has Spectrum been able to generate with its program?

On average, 88% of employees (across all of Spectrum's clients) enroll in the program on a voluntary basis and complete the health risk assessment. Of these, over 90% participate in the onsite health screening and 99% sign an informed consent.

What kind of results has Spectrum's program shown?

The wellness program contributes to increasingly positive employee attitudes about employer concerns for their wellbeing, reductions in workforce absenteeism and presenteeism, and increases in productivity.

What kind of return-on-investment can I expect?

Richard Kischuk, an independent actuary who reviewed Spectrum's program as well as the research in this area, projected a $3.18 savings for each $1 invested in the program in the 1st and 2nd year. In the 3rd year his projections are $5.00 saved for every $1 invested. Richard Kischuk is the Former Chief Operating officer of Lincoln National Reinsurance and holds a Masters Degree in Actuarial Science from the University of Michigan.

Do wellness program incentives increase participation?

Yes, incentives can boost participation in the employee health risk assessment and screening. Incentives can be designed to increase employee participation in lifestyle and disease management programs. Effective incentive design will increase employee participation and over time increase the wellness program ROI.

Our company wants the wellness program to be proprietary, can Spectrum re-brand their wellness program?

Yes, Spectrum has helped several large clients, both companies and TPA's, customize and re-brand the wellness program.

Does Spectrum offer programs to improve my health?

Yes, Spectrum's Express Health has both disease management and lifestyle management programs including weight, diet, nutrition, smoking cessation, blood pressure, cholesterol, and many more.
